A talented vibraphonist and marimba player, Dave Samuels has gained his greatest fame for his many years with Spyro Gyra. He started on his first instrument, the drums, when he was six, but by the time he attended Boston University (from which he graduated with a psychology degree), he was studying mallet instruments.

Nascido em 1967, em Mallersdorf, na Alemanha, Schindlbeck começou a tocar bateria aos cinco anos. Após atuar como percussionista principal no Mannheim Nationaltheater, entrou para a Orquestra Filarmónica de Berlim, em 1992. Embora domine a percussão clássica, também trabalha ativamente como membro do Grupo de Jazz da Filarmónica de Berlim e participa em muitos festivais de jazz. Além disso, dá aulas a muitos jovens músicos, é consultor da Fundação Herbert von Karajan e professor na Academia de Música Hanns Eisler, em Berlim.
Tsuey-Ying Tai studied percussion with professors Ya-Wen Lien, Tzang-Ching Ju and Sarah Tsai at the Chung-Cheng Senior High School.
Isao Nakamura has taught at the Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt (1994-2006), Akiyoshidai International Contemporary Music Seminar and Festival in Japan (1991-1998) and is Professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe since 1992.
