Thorsten Skringer
Thorsten Skringer: “I want nothing else but to improvise!”
We visited Yamaha artist Thorsten Skringer at a performance of the Yamaha Allstars at Wolfgangsee, Austria. Thorsten gave us an insight into his life as an internationally known saxophonist and talked about his stage experience, hobbies, family, stage fright and of course improvised music.
Biography
Thorsten Skringer graduated from the "Neue Jazz Schule München" in 1995 and since then has been constantly involved in the Soul, Pop and Jazz scenes in Germany.
As a founding member of the band "Soul Kitchen", he has performed all over Europe, Russia and China and has a number of other projects such as the "Earforce Bigband" and the ensemble "Der 5te Mann" with his "Big Sound".
In 2003 Thorsten Skringer won the Yamaha Europe Sax Contest and began his solo career with the release of the two recordings, "Skringer & Friends live in der Badeanstalt München" and "Skringer, over the line".
Furthermore, he has had two books published "Funky Sax Solos" and "Saxclinics" which focus on his unique methods for microtiming, sound and phrasing.
Active throughout Europe as a Yamaha Artist and popular lecturer for the “Saxophone Boot Camp", these workshops take place 2-3 times a year, and are officially a recognized as a training programme.
Since the beginning of 2009 Thorsten Skringer is a permanent member of the TV Total Show Band "Heavytones" which regularly give concerts live outside the TV Total show.
Thorsten Skringer plays: YTS 82 Z Tenor Saxophone, YAS 82 ZUL Alto Saxophone, YSS 82 ZS Soprano Saxophone and YBS 62 Baritone saxophone.
