Giovanni Falzone is an internationally renowned trumpeter, band leader and composer from Italy. Giovanni began learning the trumpet at the age of 17 studying at the school of band music in the town of Arafona in Sicily. Having completed his studies in Aragona, Giovanni moved to the “V. Bellini” Conservatory of Palermo graduating 4 years later and going on to study on the Jazz course at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory, Milan.
As a composer, arranger and band-leader he has a number of recordings to his name including “Music For Five” (Splasc(H) records, 2002), “Big Fracture” (Soul Note, 2003), “Earthquake Suite” (Soul Note, 2004), “Suite For Bird” (Soul Note, 2005), “Meeting In Paris” (Soul Note, 2006), “R-Evolutin Suite” (Soul Note, 2007), “Stylus Q.” (Abeat, 2008), “Around Jimi” (Cam Jazz, 2010), “Songs” (Abeat Records, 2011) and “Around Ornette” (Parco della Musica Records, 2011).
As a session player, Giovanni Falzone has played on several recordings from Musicamorfosi including “Bye Bye Mozart” (Auditorium – InSound, 2006) with Mario Brunello, cello, “Lampi 2007/2008? (Lampi di Musicamorfosi 2008), “La mia Africa” (Lampi di Musicamorfosi 2010) with Arsene Duevi and “Discomobile#2” (Musicamorfosi 2014). Giovanni Falzone currently teaches jazz for brass instruments at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory of Milan and Siena Jazz University.
As a band-leader, Giovanni Falzone has played at a number of prestigious European festivals like the Umbria Jazz Winter, “Villette Jazz Festival” in Paris, Clusone Jazz, Bergen Natt Jazz, Copenaghen Jazz Festival, Aarhus International Jazz Festival, Sardinia Jazz Festival, Vicenza Jazz Festival, Bolzano Jazz, Edinburgo Jazz Festival, Odessa Jazz Festival, Bordeaux Jazz Festival, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome, Skopje, Grenoble Jazz Festival and at the Nantes Jazz Festival and many more.
From 1996 to 2004, Giovanni Falzone collaborated on a regular basis with the Giuseppe Verdi Symphonic Orchestra, Milan and had the opportunity to play with world famous directors and soloists such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Claudio Abbado, Carlo Maria Giulini, Riccardo Chailly, Yutaka Sado, Luciano Berio, Vladimir Jurowski and Valery Giergev.
From 2004 onwards, Giovanni Falzone decided to dedicate himself solely to jazz music and since then has won many awards including ‘Best Talent” at the Umbria Jazz Clinics 2000, ‘Best New Talent’ at the Top Jazz 2004 awards and 2nd Prize in the “European Musicians” category of the Accademy du Jazz 2009 awards. In 2011, Giovanni received two awards at the Top Jazz 2011 awards, first in the category of Best Brass Player and second for his album “Around Ornette” in the CD of the Year category (first presented at the Musicamorfosi “Lampi” season of 2011).
