Nik Carter, born on 6th September 1985, hails from King’s Lynn, UK, and plays all saxophones, flute and clarinets. Nik is a versatile musician, with experience in a variety of styles, but mostly pop, contemporary and jazz music. He is a fulltime saxophonist playing in commercial settings such as horn section work, recording sessions and as a soloist.
Biografia
He started the clarinet at the age of 8 and moved onto the saxophone at the age of 12, having lessons locally with George King and later Dean Masser, Nick Walker and Simon Allen. At the age of 16 he made a guest appearance with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), and after continued rehearsals obtained a regular spot in the band playing tenor. With NYJO Nik recorded an album, ‘London Pride’, played with Buddy Grecco, and also played at the BAFTA Awards. Nik attended the Junior Jazz course at the Royal Academy Of Music for a year, lead by Nick Smart, and played with various British jazz musicians such as Tim Garland and Pete Churchill. From 2004-06, Nik attended Trinity College Of Music in London, receiving a Distinction of CertHE for Jazz Performance.
Nik has experience performing with a variety of major pop artists including: - Lily Allen, Peter Andre, Terry Hall and Lynval Golding (The Specials), Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs) Gloria Gaynor, The Drifters, Beverley Trotman (X factor), Laura White (X factor), Ruth Lorenzo (X factor), Suggs, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Beverly Knight, Toyah Wilcox, The Mystery Jets, Erol Alkan, Russell Watson, Never the Bride, Melanie Fiona, Mr Hudson, James Morrison, numerous Gospel artists from the UK and America, Anthony Costa (Blue), The Maccabees, Edwyn Collins and Elkie Brooks to name but a few. Performing with such artists has merited playing in some of the top venues, festivals and stages across Europe, America, South America, Japan, Russia and Australasia including:- Wembley Arena & Stadium, Glastonbury Festival, V Festival, Reading and Leeds, T In The Park Festival, South by SouthWest Festival(TX), Coachella Festival(CA), Bonnaroo Festival (TN), Planeta Terra Festival (Brazil), Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), Big Day Out Festival, (Australasia), plus many, many more.
